5 Movies That Should Never Be Remade

3. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension

banzai_2_superWhat It Is: A 1984 science fiction film featuring Peter Weller as the the titular Buckaroo Banzai. Buckaroo spends his days as a neurosurgeon, particle physicist, race car driver, rock star, and comic book hero. Yes, this movie is a parody. While testing a new invention called the "Oscillation Overthruster" which allows him to move through solid matter, Buckaroo Banzai unwittingly allows a horde of inter-dimensional aliens into our world. They are Red Lectroids from Planet 10, portrayed by actors such as John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd, and Vincent Schiavelli. The rest of the film follows Buckaroo Banzai and his band (the Hong Kong Cavaliers) attempting to defeat the Red Lectroids before they can return to their planet. Why A Remake Wouldn't Work: Seriously, did you read that plot synopsis? This movie is a cult film for a reason. It attracts a very niche market. It's box office performance on initial release was barely a third of it's modest budget. The Only Way It Could Work: Don't remake it, bring back its original cast and film the sequel the end credits promised us, "Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League".
