Many times, an actor’s make it or break it moment comes not on screen, but in the audition. And even the biggest stars have lost out on some of the biggest roles Hollywood’s had to offer because they just didn’t nail the audition quite the same way someone else did. And auditions aren’t fun for everyone. When I was getting into acting, I was told by a lot of casting directors that I was too short, or too scrawny, or didn’t “have a marketable face for television.” Casting directors can be rough, but it’s their job. They’ve got to find the best of the best.
So, without further ado, here’s 7 great auditions that I’ve nabbed form YouTube, so you don’t have to go out and do all the hard work. Enjoy these actors, many before their prime, at their starting points.
7. Sam Rockwell Breaks Down Chuck Barris With Geeky Style
You’ve probably noticed that Rockwell isn’t afraid to get down and boogie in his other films (he has brief moments in both Iron Man 2 and Moon where he throws down some moves) and it’s a wonder this tape hasn’t gone viral, seeing as how it’s an up-and-coming star dancing his heart out for a part.
To be fair, this is a screen test, but Rockwell must have impressed, because George Clooney, the director of the film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, even steps in for a moment to see how things are going.
And anyone who’s seen the film knows Rockwell nailed it.
