7 Threequels You Didn’t Realise Were Just Remaking The Previous Films

7. Ocean's Thirteen

Oceans You can criticise Ocean€™s 12 for a lot of things, but not for being different. More a comedy caper than the traditional heist of the original, it took the characters we knew (but I wouldn't go as far to say loved) and extended their traits in a new situation. That it did that badly and smugly is no slight on the creativity on show. Ocean€™s 13 brought the trilogy back to the realm of entertainment. Cutting out the distracting romance subplots (Julia Roberts was probably so ashamed of her cameo in 12 she refused to return) and returning to the glitz of Vegas, it was much adored, often hyped to be as good as the original. But the majority of what it got right was just lifted straight from the original. Despite the more fitting motivation of comradeship, the plot of 13 is a carbon copy of 11. The gang team up to take down a casino in a stupidly complicated manner for both financial and personal reasons. There€™s the same level of pizazz as before and each caricature still entertains so it€™s far from a bad thing, but it€™s amazing the film was so well received when the whole thing€™s so repetitive.
