Ah, crossovers. The stuff that fan boy fantasies are made of. The What If that has driven countless schoolyard/ college dorm/ bar room debates since time immemorial. Crossovers offer us an almost limitless expanse of possibilities around which to hypothesize, fantasize and generally geek out over. We all love crossovers, so here are 10 of the most epic scenarios we could come up with. These are crossovers that need to happen, but most likely will not due to reasons of character ownership, studio rights and plain and simple logistics. Given how comics alone could easily generate a list of 50 Awesome Crossovers, weve limited ourselves to existing movie franchises and have resisted the temptation to delve into what we all know would be the ultimate crossover: DC vs. Marvel. We've also attempted to create a viable rationale for how each crossover could logically occur and why it would work in a way that goes beyond because it would be freaking cool.' Without further ado, let's get to it...
8. Lethal Weapon/Tango & Cash
Back in the 80s & 90s, the buddy-cop movie was a genre unto itself and it most cases a surefire box-office winner. Some were pretty memorable (48hrs, Bad Boys) while some were just plain terrible (Red Heat, Double Team). But when it came to buddy-cops, few did it better than Murtaugh & Riggs (Lethal Weapon) or Tango & Cash (erTango & Cash). Both movies paired a straight cop (Roger Murtaugh, Ray Tango) with a borderline sociopath (Martin Riggs, Gabriel Cash). Both movies were chock full of classic 80s one liners (Im too old for this shit, Rambo is a pussy) and both featured gratuitous violence the likes of which we rarely see these days. Perhaps most conveniently, both movies featured LAPD detectives, thereby making a crossover not just easy, but likely. As was the case with The Avengers, Detectives Riggs, Murtaugh, Tango & Cash could all come together to take on a criminal that no single LAPD Detective could withstand. Of course, this being a crossover, there would obviously be misunderstandings, arguments and quite possibly a few shoot outs before our intrepid heroes band together to take down the bad guy. Oh, and did I mention that both franchises are owned by Warner Bros? This could happen!
