8 Directors Who Are Totally Under The Thumb

7. Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie is probably one of the directors who best makes use of his wife's physical features, but he makes the list anyway because he's so insistent on casting her in just about everything he makes, even his own music videos. You need only look at Rob and his wife Sheri Moon Zombie to see - with their gothy, grungy get-up - that they're made for each other, but what's really salient here is that she, by fashion and appearance, fits effortlessly into the director's lurid horror works. That's not to say she's unattractive - because she certainly is the looker of the pair - but that her quirky personality and particularly her dress sense makes her a snug fit in films like House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, both of his Halloween films, and Zombie's upcoming horror Lords of Salem. Zombie even found room for his other half in his lesser works, such as the animated film The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, his oddly restrained episode of CSI: Miami, and also his brilliant fake trailer included in Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse double bill, Werewolf Women of the SS. Prior to starring in Zombie's debut film, she had no aspirations to acting, and it's not too surprising that she's only starred in one film that wasn't directed by her hubby. Thus it seems pretty clear what the deal is, but to their defence, Mrs. Zombie has performed well in all of her man's films, and never feels shoehorned in; she always fits the character she is cast in extremely well.
