8 Films That Said Being Different Is Not A Problem

8. Big, Blonde And Beautiful! (Hairspray)

Hairspray - the all singing, all dancing American musical that had people who were different in every shot. Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky), the star of the show who, despite her size, won over the rather dashing Link Larkin, played by Zac Efron in the 2007 film. Not only does Tracy's character overcome bullying about her weight from a jealous, skinny, blonde, but she fights for racial integration in a 1960s society as well. This girl really doesn't let being different get in her way. Her best friend Penny (Amanda Bynes) falls in love with a 'negro' and announces on television that she's now a Checker Board Chick, much to her very religious and straight mother's dismay. The moral of this film - standing out from the crowd, helping others less fortunate than yourself and singing about it together at the end, will make everything turn out OK.
