This world's a crazy place. Not only is it possibly being run by lizards dressed in human skin (or worse, actual humans dancing or tweeting their way merrily towards the world's actual end), but it's also the one where the actual sequel to the notorious Iron Sky actually looks great.

In other strange news, an Orange County inmate was allowed to literally live part of Shawshank Redemption for real when he helped prison guards with their taxes. In return for financial and legal advice, he was allowed to eat chinese takeout and have access to the Internet. Which would be fine if he was wrongfully imprisoned like Andy Dufresne, but he pulled a gun on his wife and very much isn't a loveable bank nerd.

And of course, just as life imitates art and lets prisoners eat noodles they aren't allowed, art imitates life too and this festive and New Year period have been dotted with insane delights. It might be new year, new you, but it's still very much new year, same old batsh*t commitment to the banter for the worlds of film and TV...

9. The "Bird Box Challenge"

Bird Box Sandra Bullock
Netflix

There are lots of "stop the world, I want to get off" moments every year, but one particular element of movie fandom this week has gone a little further than the normal eye-rolling.

In the wake of the huge response to Sandra Bullock's Bird Box on Netflix, fans took it upon themselves to relive the film by blindfolding themselves for the sake of social media likes. The Bird Box challenge was born as people sought to complete every day tasks while robbed of their sight, you know, in case of monsters.

Apparently, this is what passes as reasonable hobbies these days...

And now, because apparently, people are so silly that their TVs have to tell them off, Netflix were forced to issue a public health warning so that people didn't literally die.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.”

Imagine humanity getting into such a state that a streaming platform are forced to guilt trip us all with the threat of disappointing two fictional characters. Jesus and God will be furious.
