7. Trainspotting (1996) Poop Flinging
A film with provocative scenes a go go, Trainspotting takes a very cinema verité approach to the reality of life for a group of Scottish heroin users. It is a blackly funny film but it is disgusting - featuring sequences of a dead baby climbing the walls during Renton's heroin withdrawal, there is also a disgusting scene where Renton has to dive into Scotland's foulest toilet. These scenes are however, not needlessly provocative as they give us an insight into a heroin addict's life. What was quite disgusting and unnecessary was the poor fortune of Spud to wake up from a night on the piss to find he had crapped his girlfriend's bed. He takes the sheets downstairs and his girlfriend's mum tries to get the sheets off Spud. They get into a tug of war until the sheets explode with a shower of s**t all over his girlfriend's family whilst they are sitted at the breakfast table. Everyone just sits there! Covered in poop! It was a provocative moment in a how much can we gross out the viewer? kind of way. And it worked - consider me fully disgusted.
