9 Ultimate Bad Taste Movies

pink-flamingos-divine Yes, I am pandering to the lowest common denominator again - this time bad taste movies. There is something that satisfies my brain when I watch something revolting and obscene. I may hate the image, but I get a perverse sense of satisfaction from having watched it. Some bad taste movies are just plain weird and disturbing as you shall see in my list. Some of them are wet yourself hilarious. And some of them give you food for thought - they are provocative in their poor taste. As disgusting as some of these movies are, they deserve to be celebrated as bad taste movies - a particular niche that many of us enjoy for our own perverse reasons...

9. House Of Whipcord (1974)

house of concord Sort of made as a flagrant f**k you to people like Mary Whitehouse who were then extremely active in busying themselves with saving the nation's morals from filmic filth, British exploitation king - Pete Walker - created this perverted little piece of Britsploitation. A highly disturbing film which may alienate the casual viewer with its bad taste goings on, House of Whipcord centres around a private correctional facility for girls. Really it consists of a guy called Mark E Dessart charming young women back to his pad where his moral maniac mother and senile judge father pass sentence on the girls for being immoral wenches and lock them up with zero jurisdiction. Apparently the legal courts have become far too permissive with young ladies, so it is up to Mrs Wakehurst to dole out appropriate punishment. The film doles out sadistic punishments for the captured girls. And the viewer gets the message that these poor kidnapped girls will never escape the 'prison' - they may try their best, but their escapes will be futile. Watching girls like this in captivity - captivity that is soul destroying and brutal - is a shock to the viewer's system as most Women in Prison (WIP) films feature cheeky lesbian goings on, lots of bare flesh and intrigue among the women prisoners. There is nothing but soul destroying bleakness and doom. Walker was obviously sending out a message to the British judiciary and our Moral Guardians but in doing so he created a film that will be in poor taste for the majority of viewers.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
