9 Worst Accidents That Keep Happening On The Sets Of Hollywood Movies

7. Deaf, Blind And Really Dumb

Remember that really cool scene in Die Hard when McClane is trapped under a boardroom table by a €˜terrorist€™ with a large unfriendly weapon, and shoots the man to death through the table while he struggles to reload? Well, Bruce Willis permanently lost two-thirds of his hearing while filming that really cool scene. The automatic weapon he was using was loaded with extra loud blanks for effect, and he wasn€™t wearing any hearing protection. The same thing happened to Linda Hamilton on the set of Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991. To this day, she has hearing loss in one ear after firing a prop gun inside an echoing elevator car without wearing any ear plugs. Years earlier, on the set of Star Trek (the original series), both William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were positioned too close to a prop explosion while filming the first season episode €˜Arena€™. Both men suffered agonising, permanent tinnitus as a result, Shatner in his left ear and Nimoy in his right. From ears to eyes: during the filming of A Clockwork Orange€™s seminal brainwashing scene in 1971, lead actor Malcolm McDowell was nearly blinded when his cornea was scratched due to his eyes being jammed open for an inordinate length of time. And rubber-legged Belgian enigma Jean-Claude Van Damme actually stabbed soldier and part-time actor Jackson "Rock" Pinckney in the eye with a rubber prop knife while filming a fight scene in 1989€™s sci-fi thriller Cyborg, causing permanent loss of vision. A North Carolina court heard evidence that Van Damme had a reputation for working close and snug in fight scenes, wanting them to look as convincing as possible, and found in favour of Pinckney, awarding him nearly half a million dollars in compensation.
