Christopher Nolan is truly blessed with God given talent. As one of Hollywood’s best A-List directors, he is soon to enjoy yet another wad of money and acclaim and even more money and even more acclaim when his third Batman movie, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ comes out next month. The million dollar question on our lips though is, what will he do next?
Nolan bought himself carte blanche years ago to make whatever movie he wants at Warner Bros and has a blank cheque at his disposal for his next motion picture. Simply put, he can direct whatever he wants with whomever he wants.
Now that his Batman saga is complete, will his next film be a personal project or will he instead choose from one of the hundreds of manuscripts being hurled at him from all sides? We can only guess.
From all the information we know of the director right now, here’s 10 movies that Nolan could direct next consisting of films he previously attempted to get off the ground but couldn’t get financial backing (he won’t have that problem now!) or that he has been linked with and a few our of fantasy choices for what he should direct…
1. Citizen Hughes (aka Mr Hughes)
It’s no secret that Christopher Nolan has long wanted to make a biopic about the film mogul, aviator and eccentric, Howard Hughes. After 2002’s Insomnia it seemed there was real momentum behind this project with Jim Carrey tipped to play the lead. However that all fell through when Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator got together quickly with Leonardo DiCaprio and became one of the biggest films of 2004. Studios were nervous about releasing another Howard Hughes movie so close to Scorsese’s and Nolan’s version had to go back on the shelf gathering dust.
More recently Christopher Nolan looked to be gearing up to direct his Hughes biopic again. He had the ‘best screenplay {he’s} ever written’ and now has the studio backing to make it happen. Could this one be going before cameras next year? Nolan has recently said that he has already made films about a rich oddball who was orphaned as a child – namely Bruce Wayne. Is this just distraction? I find it hard to believe that he would simply give up on a project that seemed so important to him.
Nolan’s Hughes film would concentrate on the later years of Hughes’ life when his OCD was completely unmanageable. Whereas The Aviator featured much about Hughes early life, Nolan wanted to take a hard look at the entrepreneur’s mental illness and his flirtation with insanity. If there is any director who can make a good, thought-provoking film about the self-destruction of a great human mind, it is Christopher Nolan.
Who Would Star?: Jim Carrey was certainly who Nolan wanted to star in the movie ten years ago. However with the emergence of a relationship with Christian Bale (who plays obsessives like no other) and also with Leonardo DiCaprio having starred in Inception (and also the Hughes movie that blocked Nolan’s with The Aviator), Nolan has several names he could turn upon.
Likelihood as Nolan’s Next Movie? Very strong. Out of all the projects in this list, Citizen Hughes is the most likely to be made next.

As a huge ME fan, I’d love to see his take on Mass Effect. But not with Jim Caviezel. Guy has the personality of an empty wardrobe.
Nolan says the Howard Hughes movie is dead. So I highly doubt it comes next. http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/christopher-nolan-says-his-howard-hughes-film-is-dead-but-hed-still-like-to-do-a-bond-film-at-some-point-20120604
Nolan should direct AKIRA!!
This film has been stopped and started more times than i care to count and with Nolans expert direction and scope, it would be a gritty, real and viscious vision to behold.
Even DeCaprio has been financially linked to the project and its my understanding that both him and nolan are friends and could easily collaborate on this.
Akira is a film that needs to be remade and although casting too many of hollywoods actors is “whitewashing” the asian masterpiece im sure if Nolan was behind the camera no one would care.
Chronicle was a hit and that was done by a bunch of unknowns (to me anyway) and seeing as Akira has similar subject matter you can be certain that its bound to grab the attention of those who are not fanboys of the original.

I really dont think they need to reboot bond anytime soon for chris nolan to do a follow up to skyfall “james bond 23″, I think he would do it if they had a really good story or if he could come up with something, i really like the idea of daniel craig back as bond in a chris nolan bond film, im not sure on the villians, maybe have gary oldman or tom hardy or christian bale as one of bond villians and maybe kevin spacey as the other, i luv that rumor a little while :), two thumbs up for chris nolan and james bond 24, warner brothers and mgm make it happen !!!!!
mgm and warner brothers should try to get chris nolan for a follow up to skyfall and bring back daniel graig as bond and no roboot for “james bond 24″, it would be very awesome to hear about nolan + daniel = :), at least for this guy, im not sure on bond villian or villians maybe gary oldman as a bond villian sounds pretty cool for me or christian bale or leo or jgl or tom hardy or some one hes never work with yet like kevin spacey would be something new and different, what do u guys think ?
