Amber Heard in for 'Machete Kills'

Robert Rodriguez has added yet another hot blooded femme fatale to his 'Machete Kills' line-up with news today coming from Variety that Amber Heard is in talks to join the grindhouse style sequel for Twentieth Century Fox. Danny Trejo reprises the title role of the legendary ex-federale from the 2009 film that began life as a mock trailer for the Rodriguez/Tarantino Grindhouse double bill that was 'Planet Terror' and 'Death Proof'. As described by Variety the follow up features Trejo's Machete as he is recruited by the US government to prevent an arms dealer from launching a missile against the US. Heard's role will be reportedly be that of a manipulative assassin code named, Miss San Antonio. Heard herself is not new to these type of Grindhouse features having recently featured in the utterly barmy pic that was 'Drive Angry' with Nicolas Cage. Hopefully this one will turn out somewhat better for the slowly rising star who was last seen alongside Johnny Depp in Bruce Robinson's somewhat stilted adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's 'The Rum Diary'. She was slated to appear alongside Gerard Butler in Albert Hughes' 'Motor City' but with this news coming today, who knows whether those annoying scheduling conflicts will come into play or not. Hopefully not. As well as the returning Trejo as Machete, Heard also joins returning stars Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez as well as the recently announced Demian Bichir in as yet unspecified role and more interestingly, a certain Mel Gibson who will be playing the arms dealer threatening to launch the missile. I'll let you make your own jokes concerning that one... The first 'Machete' film I found was an interesting experiment but really in my opinion should've stayed as a trailer. It really didn't need to be extended. Hopefully without the restraints that was the original fake trailer, maybe Rodriguez will deliver the goods this time around. Filming is set to begin this month in Heard's hometown of Austin, Texas. Heard most recently appeared in NBC's 'The PLayboy Club' and recently wrapped production on the indie drama 'Syrup' with Kellan Lutz and Brittany Snow.
