Marvel have kindly remembered that Ant-Man and the Wasp comes out in a few months time, dropping the first trailer for the movie yesterday.
The follow-up comes three years after the first Ant-Man quietly closed out the MCU's Phase Two, and two years after we last saw Paul Rudd's Scott Lang on screen in Captain America: Civil War. This time around he's getting a partner in (fighting) crime, Hope van Dyne/Wasp, which was teased in the post-credits scene of the first film.
Ant-Man was a reasonable success, especially for such a weird property, and the film coasted by on its humour and the charm of Rudd. That looks by being present again in this movie but, for a sequel in an increasingly crowded marketplace, it does need to up its game somewhat, and the trailer gives off an impression that they might've managed it thanks to the addition of the Wasp.
As is to be expected for a first teaser they're not giving too much away here, but there are a few plot details to be gleaned once you're over the sight of that Hello Kitty Pez attack.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
