Avengers 4: 8 Major Plot Predictions

3. Captain America Vs. Red Skull

One of Infinity War's biggest surprises was the return of Red Skull.

After the character vanished at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger, many fans had written him off as dead, but a great many more had concluded that the Tesseract hadn't killed him; it had transported him into space.

And this turned out to be true, with Red Skull - now the keeper of the Soul Stone - being found on the planet Vormir by Thanos and Gamora.

The character didn't really have much to do other than look ominous and spout exposition, but his inclusion does present a tantalising possibility for Avengers 4 to exploit: having Captain America come face-to-face with his old enemy once again.

If the Avengers end up on Vormir - maybe to trade the Soul Stone for Gamora's life - and Cap is along for the ride, the confrontation between he and Red Skull would be super interesting to watch. What would happen if Cap killed the keeper of the Soul Stone? Does he become its new guardian? Is this how Earth's first superhero spends the rest of his days? It would certainly be fitting for the MCU's most noble character to devote himself to protecting an Infinity Stone.

Avengers 4 was written by Markus and McFeely, who penned all three Captain America movies, as well as Infinity War. They created the cinematic version of Red Skull, so maybe they've had an idea like this in place since the very beginning.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
