Avengers 4 Behind-The-Scenes Image Confirms New Character Rumour

Is this evidence of an alternate MCU timeline character?

Avengers 4 Secret Character
Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios have always had a bit of a problem with leaks from their cast. Tom Holland did it a few times, Don Cheadle's done it, Samuel L Jackson likewise and Mark Ruffalo's an offender too. It's actually got to the point that they're making it something of a marketing gimmick, with Holland and Ruffalo co-opted into teasing things "in-gimmick."

There's another name to add to that list too, as one of the MCU's longest serving actors has repeatedly teased the appearance of a new character in Avengers 4 (as well as giving away some choice plot details about her character's key relationship). That same actor has now been part of what seems to be a confirmation that said new character will absolutely be appearing in Avengers 4. Be warned, this is where it gets SPOILERY.

On the back of hinting that Pepper Potts and Tony Stark get married in Avengers 4's time-jump, Gwyneth Paltrow has unwittingly spoiled the fact that she will be suiting up as Rescue in the forthcoming sequel. That happened when she posted an image on Instagram of her in a mo-cap suit, suggesting that she'd been filming a sequence in armour (just as she did for Iron Man 3), which inevitably inspired rumours of Rescue appearing.

And now, a behind-the-scenes image of Paltrow actually in Rescue's armour has appeared on Instagram thanks to kpow_ok, which is bound to annoy Marvel. At least this one wasn't posted by Paltrow herself...

She's already been in an Iron Man suit in the third movie of Robert Downey Jr's series, but this is different. That armour looks like it's been developed specifically for her, which is somewhat confusing since Tony Stark's major drive has always been keeping those he loves away from harm. Could it be that it might not have been developed by him and that he's not there any more to stop Potts becoming Rescue?

Or maybe this is an alternate timeline version of Pepper? That would make a lot more sense. What do you think?
