The one big hint the Infinity War will end well...

In the days since the release of the first, hotly-anticipated trailer for the Russos' upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, fans and professionals have inevitably poured over the footage looking for hints at what they can expect. Despite a firm lack of spoilers (other than things we pretty much already knew, anyway), the teaser cleverly leans in on emotion, establishing a sombre mood and the grim reality of the aftermath of Thanos' Decimation.

By the look of it, this is not going to be a happy movie, but when you think about it, that was always going to be the tale of this first trailer. In the MCU timeline, a huge, devastating act has just wiped out half of all living things in the universe - it's not exactly a time for Thor: Ragnarok-style comedy hi-jinx.

In that respect, we didn't get to see Captain Marvel, whose arrival is bound to lead to a major pick-up in mood and nor did we see any of the scenes we know have been filmed by characters who are supposedly dead. This was not an exercise in building hope, it was one of doubling-down on the mood at the end of Infinity War, with that pleasant surprise of Scott Lang's mysterious reappearance at the end tagged-on for the slimmest glimmer of positivity.

But if you look a little closer to the trailer around that point, there's an even bigger point suggesting that Endgame might end with a happy ending. The moment comes as the title reveal happens, which is perhaps why it doesn't stick out so much, but consider HOW the title is revealed...

That sequence is a reversal of the Decimation. The symbolism here is incredibly loaded: we see the physical representation of the Avengers - their logo - turning from ash back into a fully formed unit.

That A for Avengers reforming is what we should expect from the end of the movie: those who were turned to dust will reform and we will get an ultimately happy ending. Obviously, it's not as simple as that, because each of the survivors might have something sad in their immediate future and there will be deaths, but at the end of things - in the Endgame - Thanos' act will be undone.

Now all we need to wonder about is how that actually happens...
