Bad-Ass Captain Marvel Trailer Is Here And It Will Change The MCU Forever

Now that's how you make a trailer...!

Captain Marvel Trailer
Marvel Studios

When Marvel Studios belatedly announced that the first solo female superhero movie would be Captain Marvel, they changed the MCU's trajectory for the better in a single moment. Sure, we'd had female characters and some of them even had things to do sometimes (not all of them though), but we were yet to see a comic book movie from the studio with a female character's name in the title. At least on its own.

Representation matters, though, and it seems Kevin Feige and his paymasters know this now. They should also know that it's good for business having already scored a major financial victory with Black Panther and seeing what Wonder Woman did for the DCEU. Getting their own female solo movie off the ground a decade after a Marvel studio canned a Black Widow movie over marketability concerns was a priority.

And more importantly, making the star of that movie - Brie Larson's Captain Marvel - the new lead for the second age of the MCU (or phase 4 onwards to give it its conventional name) the central focus for the entire MCU (alongside Spider-Man) was an even greater priority. But it also heaped a world of expectation on the movie, which was compounded by Marvel's slow-drip marketing campaign.

In the end, that campaign has actually worked positively, working a massive amount of hype up for the forthcoming stand-alone. And that's why the new trailer has been so excitedly anticipated. And now it's here, and hoo boy is it a good one...

Now that's how you make a trailer. Sure, there are some slightly Michael Bay-esque moments, but it sells the character, her mythology, her powers and her cool appeal (as well as going hard on the Girls Who Fight spirit that will be key to marketing it) and it's a really great bit of advertising.

If you weren't excited already, you will be now.
