Batgirl Movie: 10 Directors To Replace Joss Whedon

And finally, we have by far the most prolific filmmaker on this list, Michelle MacLaren. Having served as a producer on The X-Files and Breaking Bad (winning two Emmys for the latter), not to mention directing episodes of both alongside The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Westworld and Better Call Saul, she's a powerful figure in TV, and a leap to tentpole cinema feels like the natural next step.

What's telling is that MacLaren was actually hired to direct Wonder Woman back in 2014, but she eventually left amid creative differences. If her working relationship with Warner Bros. isn't soured, this really feels like hers for the taking.

How Likely Is It?: MacLaren's main obstacle is her schedule: she has The Nightingale due out next January and Cowboy Ninja Viking later that June, but if Warner Bros. is prepared to hold on for a year-plus to get to work, this could actually happen.

There are no guarantees, of course, but she should probably be considered the frontrunner so far. 8/10
