It might be ten years since Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight was first released in cinemas, but few comic book movies released since then have gotten anywhere near the same level of quality. The second of Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy remains the greatest comic book movie ever, despite claims that it's not really a pure comic book movie and it's testament to its success that the DCEU tried (and failed) to emulate it.
Nolan took everything that had made Batman Begins such a cool reboot - from Christian Bale's sharp-edged Batman to the darker, cooler tone - and built on it, delivering the greatest ever comic book movie villain in the process. It was as far away from the day-glo nonsense of Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin as could possibly be imagined, to its eternal credit.
