Blackfilm are reporting that model and sometimes “attempted” actress Naomi Campbell has dropped out of Spike Lee’s upcoming war movie MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA because of scheduling conflicts. Lee quickly replaced her with Kerry Washington (pictured left), the well respected actress who you will have seen in THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND and the two FANTASTIC FOUR movies (where her small scenes outshone everyone else).
I say Lee finally came to his senses after a casting decision that baffled us all back in September and cast a solid actress of real pedigree when it became obvious this Campbell thing wasn’t going to work out.
Spike Lee’s movie is an answer to the classic Hollywood war picture whose absence of black soldiers has angered and disgusted the veteran helmer. MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA tells the story of four black American soldiers who get trapped in a Tusan Village in Italy during 1944.
First still of the movie which at this point still does not have a distributor was released this week…
