Chris Evans' time in the MCU may be coming to an end, but Marvel is getting itself a new captain.

As announced back in 2014, and teased in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel will soon be joining the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with her own solo movie next year.

Starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, who becomes the titular superhero, the movie is among the most anticipated on Marvel's slate - and one of the most important. Danvers is an Air Force pilot who, thanks to alien technology, becomes half-human, half-Kree and gains a host of powers including flight, superhuman strength and speed, and the ability to absorb and project energy.

It's a big move for Marvel that will further expand the cosmic arm of the universe, and hopefully give us a few answers as to where Danvers has been all this time and why she hasn't appeared in the MCU before now, with a trailer rumoured to be coming in the next month or so. That should give us a much clearer idea of what the movie will look like, but even now there's plenty to know about Marvel's next big superhero.
