This article was originally published in 2011 - following Christopher Lee's BAFTA Academy Fellowship award - and has today been republished following the sad passing of the 93-year-old actor. Christopher Lee was a dominant figure in British, European (being fluent in Italian and German, proficient in French) and American cinema since 1948 and held the Guinness World Record for the most acting credits. With roots well and truly within the low budget offerings of Hammer Studios, Christopoher Lee went on to become one of the most enduring British actors of all time. Along with the fantastic Peter Cushing, Lee managed to bring a touch of class and superior acting ability to his Hammer adventures. Transcending into Hollywood cinema in his late career, Lee starred in some of the most memorable films of both the 20th and 21st centuries. Following his key roles in both the Star Wars prequel trilogy and Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings/Hobbit trilogies, as well as his role as Scaramanga in James Bond's The Man With The Golden Gun - still believed to be the best Bond villain ever portrayed on screen - his was a face recognisable to audiences of any generation.
