Damon Lindelof Writing Disney's Super Secret Sci-Fi Film 1952

Are you ready to devote yourself into unlocking another Damon Lindelof mystery or did the ending of Lost totally piss you off and you don't want to get burned again by investing time and energy into something that doesn't really know where it's going? Deadline reported last night that Lindelof, one of the architects of the show, has been paid seven figures by Disney to write and produce a super secret sci-fi film titled 1952 with the intention of hitting a mass, family friendly audience. And that's literally all we know at this point, the premise being kept under-wraps for a little while at least. With an intriguing date title, 1952 could refer to the year the film is set in or an event at least that impacts the film or perhaps it's a more obscure reference? Oh, one more thing we do know is that Disney are planning a project that will span multiple formats, so expect comic book prequel tie-ins and zany stuff you can download on your iPhone. 1952 will be the first movie that Lindelof has pitched and will produce from the ground-up and it came out of a series of meetings he had with Disney's production president Sean Bailey and senior exec Brigham Taylor. His other film credits include teaming with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to write Cowboys & Aliens, heavy re-writing work on Ridley Scott's Prometheus (so much so it became something different entirely from the Alien prequel originally planned) and has been working with Orci & Kurtzman again on the script for Star Trek 2. Though as J.J. Abrams' time has been focused on Super 8 - those trio of writers have been doing there own thing lately and it seems Lindelof's has been pitching this project at Disney. Whilst the words 'family friendly, mass audience' at Disney bring up memories of Alice in Wonderland, The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Prince of Persia - movies I couldn't imagine watching again, Lindelof is one of the more interesting sci-fi writers working today and with Disney's bottomless pit of cash, the sky could be the limit here.
