David Slade Directing DAREDEVIL 'Continuation'

Desperate to get a Daredevil movie into production before 20th Century Fox lose the character rights back to Marvel and Variety reports that the studio have hired 30 Days of Night, Hard Candy and Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade to helm a 'continuation' of the franchise that began with an extremely mediocre 2003 film starring Ben Affleck. Though the trades say the new movie, despite the 'continuation' label, won't have anything to do with the previous film that's now nearly a decade old. So it'll basically exist as Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk did to Ang Lee's Hulk. Slade is a guy who Fox were keen to direct the Wolverine sequel before they realised, probably via Hugh Jackman, that Darren Aronofsky wasn't out of reach, so his hiring isn't at all surprising and not particularly inspired. He's an average director in the studio tentpole environment and brings up a resounding 'meh' here at OWF Towers... but hey, it could have been a lot worse and he's at least a level above last director Mark Steven Johnson (Ghost Rider). The deal has just broke so no screenwriter has been hired just yet, so don't expect the new Daredevil to go into production this year. As for casting... expect the usual suspects to pop up (i.e. Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy et all). But more importantly... what story will it focus on?
