What Does The Ending Of Interstellar Really Mean?

Oh my God! It's full of stars!

It goes without saying that this article will contain MAJOR SPOILERS for Interstellar from the off, with particular focus on its ending. If you're yet to see it and want to keep spoiler-free, we recommend bookmarking this and coming back after you've seen Christopher Nolan's latest. Some minor sound mixing issues aside, Interstellar is another great film from Christopher Nolan, the indie director with a Hollywood budget and Hitchcock-level name recognition. It's a grand sci-fi epic that features the usual mix of a bonkers sci-fi plot and grand ideas, with a scale, both in terms of geography and ideas, that is rarely touched on in mainstream cinema (no wonder there's been copious comparisons to 2001: A Space Odyssey), making it one of the must see films of 2014 (and it's been a good year). The ending has already proven minorly divisive, its departure from the rest of the film's grounded science rubbing some viewers up the wrong way. Cooper's entrance into a black hole and the metaphysical weirdness we experience within is perplexing and visually striking, but ties the film together, not just in terms of narrative, but in its overall themes. Today we're going take a deeper look at the ending - what exactly happened and what does it all mean?
