Ethan Hawke gets his teeth sunk into another vampire flick

ethanhawke.jpgWe reported last week that Ethan Hawke was to star in Julie Delpy's 15th century movie vampire-esque movie The Countess, but news from The Hollywood Reporter today is that the actor is set to top-line another movie in the genre. Daybreakers is the film, and it has been described as a high-concept futuristic vampire movie from Australian directors Peter and Michael Spierig which will begin shooting in the Outback this July.
Hawke will play a researcher in the year 2017, when a plague has transformed most of the world's population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a discovery that has the power to save the human race.
The Aussie directors previous work includes the comedy/horror flick Undead which I haven't seen but it's developed something of a cult following despite it being panned by critics. I like Ethan Hawke and ya'll know how I like my vampire movies... but I tend to favour the realistic one's over the high-concept one's such as this.
