Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan To Appear In Star Wars Episode IX?

The planned Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone movie may or may not have been put on hold, but Ewan McGregor could be returning to a galaxy far, far away either way.
According to a new rumour, that might be the case, with The Sun reporting that McGregor is set to cameo in next year's Episode IX, citing a source who's told them the actor will secretly film a part for the movie.
While the rumour needs to be taken with a shaker full of salt, the return of Obi-Wan isn't without precedent. We heard the character in The Force Awakens, including dialogue by McGregor, and J.J. Abrams is also directing this one. There was also the cameo of Yoda in The Last Jedi, for which Obi-Wan was considered, while McGregor himself has consistently said he'd be up for a return, so it's definitely possible that we'll see the character again.
After the divisive response to Episode VIII, there's a good chance Abrams will go even heavier on the fan-service this time around (it's already been rumoured Billy Dee Williams is returning) and this would certainly fit with that.
If he's coming back then it could well mean Luke Skywalker is too, as Obi-Wan on his own probably wouldn't make too much sense (audiences would know who he is, and Ben Solo was named after him, but many of the other characters might not know who he is). An alternative is that Abrams has some more plans for Rey's family, and could reveal that even if her parents were nobodies, she's still a Kenobi descendent.
