First Look: Tom Hanks Gets EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE
Warner Bros Christmas/Oscar hope gets a first look reveal.
All round good guy and Hollywood A-Lister Tom Hanks is box office gold; its a fact, in total his films have made over US $4 Billion and his last outing the mind numbingly average Larry Crowne which he wrote, starred in and directed somehow made a profit (just). Which goes some way to answering why his next film Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close has been rescheduled for a family friendly Christmas release. Warner Bros. have also released this debut image from the movie, which includes a very familiar looking Hanks with newbie Thomas Horn (winner of American TV show Jeopardy! apparently). The moving story centres on Oskar Schell (Horn) whose father died in the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks. Like Jonathan Safran Foers novel Oskar distances himself from grieving mother (Sandra Bullock) and the troubled world that surrounds him by taking an adventure through New York City hunting for the lock to a mysterious key his father once owned. His journey is powered by a vivid imagination and sounds a hell of a lot like Scorseses upcoming, fellow winter release, Hugo dont you think? Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliott, The Hours, The Reader) directs the screen adaptation which the amazing Eric Roth (Forrest Gump and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) wrote. Yearning for Oscar gold as well as Box office, Warner Bros. have pushed the release date forward in hopes of getting that all important buzz generated in those sacred winter months. Critics have already likened Horns performance to that of True Grits Hailee Steinfeld, and well, Tom Hanks is more often than not, effortlessly incredible in anything he cares to do. The film is out December 25th (by the way, does anyone actually go to the cinema on Christmas Day?) and also stars John Goodman, James Gandolfini, Max von Sydow and Jeffrey Wright in what looks to be an Oscar contender.
