Four Minutes Of GREEN LANTERN Makes Me Love Comic Book Movies

On Nov. 17th last year when Warner Bros unleashed the first trailer for this summer's Green Lantern, I wrote a post titled; "GREEN LANTERN trailer makes me hate comic book movies" which caused something of a stir among our readers but in scowering the majority of the online discussion that came in the following days, it did feel like most were in agreement with me. Hell, from the sounds of things, WB were siding with me too! Now, almost five months later, with little more than a slight curiosity of anticipation among even the most optimistic of comic book movie fans, WB really needed to knock something out of the ballpark at San Fransisco's WonderCon this weekend to really win back the audience who had perhaps turned their back on the movie, and the debut of new footage would probably be a pivotal make-or-break moment for the $150 million tentpole. Did WB manage to knock it out of the ballpark? Hell yeah they did... out of the ballpark, and out of the universe! After wowing those in attendance with 10 minutes worth of footage, WB have uploaded a four minute highlights sizzle reel of Green Lantern and they have done the impossible, they have turned my head and I'm now salivating at the mouth at the prospect of visiting the planet Oa and seeing Ryan Reynolds' journey as Hal Jordan unfold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEM6AQgJstY They've made me do a 1080 and move my anticipation levels from something I was literally dreading like a root canal dentist appointment, to something that's release date is now on my calendar under 'KEEP THIS DAY FREE'. Everything from the huge ambitious scope of the movie, the creature designs, the aliens, the visual effects, the mood, looks a thousand times better than it did before. Finally, here's a movie that's actually playing in the DC Comics Universe and knows it, this is a movie that is dreaming so much bigger than Superman Returns.... this is how it's done. This is the Green Lantern movie I was hoping to see. The CGI suit is still terribly irksome and there's noticeably less of the 'comic' side of Reynolds' Jordan, which is welcomed but sadly probably still in the movie, but it's a small concern at this point. Roll on June 17th...
