Green Lantern Corps: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Rupert Wyatt To Direct?

Former Gambit helmer linked.

With all the news around Justice League and The Batman, it's easy to sometimes forget that there's a Green Lantern Corps movie coming. So far, there's been very little news regarding the film, other than some vague rumours and a hint that it might actually be seeded by Justice League after all.

Beyond speculation, we've seen no casting updates and the film currently still doesn't even have a director. Or at least, it didn't until very recently, according to That Hashtag Show, who say that the film's helmer has been discovered and now revealed.

They say that Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and was attached to Gambit until a scheduling conflict forced him to leave, is the man charged with bringing the Corps to life. The rumour is partly based on a casting call, and they say that he has cleared his schedule to work with Warner Bros and DC.

Quite worryingly, the film is described here as Lethal Weapon in Space, which is not something anyone needs to see outside of the 1990s. If at all. Apparently, Hal Jordan will mentor the younger John Stewart, as the character breakdowns THS are running suggest:

Hal Jordan: Caucasian, 39 – 50. A former military test pilot, he is now a veteran of the Green Lantern Corps.John Stewart: African- American male, 21 – 30. Prior to joining the Green Lantern Corp, he was a sniper in the military.

They say Lethal Weapon, but that sounds more like Men In Black. If they capture the right chemistry, this won't be the worst approach.

Wyatt is only the latest director attached to the project by rumours: before him, David Goyer was linked by Jeff Snider, but it seems he's now only considered a writer on the project.

Hopefully this might mean we'll get some more concrete information regarding the film's cast, which clearly won't include Armie Hammer if this is indeed correct, since he's neither African American or middle-aged.

Sadly for those who want to believe this, there are already a couple of pretty big nay-sayers. Both Collider's Frosty and Umberto Gonzalez have poured scorn on it...
