How Avengers: Endgame Delivered A Satisfying Ending (But Game Of Thrones Failed)

7. No Pointless Plot Lines

How Endgame Delivered: At three hours in length, Avengers: Endgame is a long movie, but it was paced well and didn't waste any time on plot lines and stories that were completely pointless.

Everything that happened in the film served the plot and the characters and their motivations, and while it had its fair share of plot holes (thanks time travel), it still told a satisfying story.

How Thrones Failed: Game of Thrones had a lot of plot lines in season 8 that ultimately went nowhere, and they were a waste of time that distracted from the story. Let's look over some of those wasted plot lines, shall we?

Bronn - He was tasked with killing Jaime and Tyrion in the premiere, then he shows up a few episodes later to do so...and doesn't. He then returns in the finale as the new master of coin (the very last person who should be that), and the fact that he was about to kill him and Jaime doesn't seem to bother Tyrion at all. So what was the point of all of that?

Aegon Targaryen - So Jon discovers his true identity, the rightful heir to the iron throne, and is all set up for a major conflict with Dany after the Battle of Winterfell...and he spends the rest of the season with two dialogue options ("I don't want it, I never have" and "she's muh queen") then he kills Dany after she slaughters King's Landing and is sent back to the Night's Watch. So how important was that reveal again?

Arya and Gendry - These two get it on just for the sake of it before the Battle of Winterfell. It came straight out of nowhere, there was no romantic build-up to it, it just...happens. The two don't end up together in the end (though that's actually a good thing), so it was just another one-night stand that was in there because this show just needed another sex scene, now didn't it?

We could go on, but we'd be here all day (don't say it, Cap). Next.
