20. The Emotions Are Based On Simple, Relevant Shapes

Each of the emotions embodies their respective feeling not just through voice and actions, but also design; Anger looks angry, Fear fearful, etc. And it turns out there's even more genius behind that than you'd expect - they're all based on very specific shapes or objects. Anger is a fire brick, Fear a nerve, Joy a star and Sadness a teardrop. But best of all? Disgust is actually broccoli, one of her most detested foods. It's a subtle design choice, but it's remarkable how it aids in the characterisation. The scene in the Abstract Thought machine actually highlights this - before becoming simple lines, Joy and Sadness take on the form of their inspirational shapes.
