With Iron Man 3 in post-production and hitting our cinemas on May 3rd of this year, I’ve been thinking about who from the Marvel Universe it would be good to see in the inevitable after-the-credits scene that we’ve become so accustomed to in these movies.
Up to now we have seen post-credits scenes including Tony Stark himself, Nick Fury, Loki and Thanos, amongst others, and they have served as huge talking points for movie audiences around the world, teasing what is to come in future instalments to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Done right, they can seamlessly induct new characters and storylines in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the potential for cameos in Iron Man 3 is huge.
Here, I take a look at a few of the possibilities that we’d like to see.

Guardians of the Galaxy is pretty much confirmed.
No mention of Janet van Dyne as Wasp, Stark’s good friend Hulk or Black Panther with his Wakandan tech that Stark would very much be interested in.
I’m not even disappointed, in fact I am sad that you didn’t include Black Panther on this list.
I was merely being realistic. It’s very unlikely that there’s going to be an appearance by someone whose film hasn’t been *confirmed* yet. I mean, we all know he’s coming, but even Strange isn’t going to be until Phase 3, and all we’ve had regarding him is verbal confirmation.
Surely it wont be a character the casual viewer has never heard of? (everyone on that list apart from coulson)
I mean i know who they all are, but im a nerd. My mum n dad who loved the avengers and iron man would have no idea who they are. Imagine them in the cinema and ant man pops on the screen theyd be like…..wtf.
They did it with Thanos.
Completely disagree that “It would be satisfying for viewers, to see him return, having found out that the Coulson who ‘died’ was actually an LMD”, I find the Coulson Lives thing a real shame, and am dubious that they can win me over.
The Phase 1 Post-Credit scenes were about linking the other films and showing the Avengers connections.
I assume in Phase 2 they will want to introduce the new characters making Guardians, Ant-Man/Wasp and, at a push, Dr.Strange likely candidates for PC scenes.
They will also want to build the overal theme leading into Avengers 2. Therefore if Masters of Evil are the bad guys for Avengers 2 we may see them coming together in Post-Credit scenes – almost like an evil version of the Phase 1 scenes when we saw the recruiting of the Avengers.
You have every right to disagree, but the widespread opinion is that people want Coulson back. He’s become a cult character, one of the most likeable in the MCU. And the fact is he’s set to be the star of the SHIELD TV shows, which isn’t going to be a prequel, so Marvel obviously know that he’s wanted by the majority and he’s definitely not dead. The majority of viewers, therefore, will indeed be satisfied. But if you don’t like the guy, that’s fine.
Also, as a side-note, there’s no reason he couldn’t be included in someone else’s cameo. Like I said, just a smirk in the background while Hank Pym or Dr. Strange are the focal point would bring a smile to plenty of viewer’s faces!
