Is Damien Chazelle Making Another La La Land With Emma Stone And Brad Pitt?

R-rated Golden age of Hollywood movie sounds a blast...

Damien Chazelle makes movies about dreams and the cost they come at. He made one about a musician wrestling with the question of breaking himself for his art. He made one about an actress and a musician forced to break their relationship apart to realise their dreams. And then he made one about the cost of America's yearning to make it to the moon. They all essentially boil down to the same pillars and it seems he might be ready to continue on the same thread.

According to Deadline, Chazelle is heading out of the stars and back to Tinseltown for Babylon, a Hollywood period drama that looks set to team him back up with Emma Stone and also excitingly throw Brad Pitt into the mix.

The film - which will no doubt be likened to La La Land because of its focus on the industry from the inside will be a drama mixing real and fictional characters and will boast an R-rating. Not that that means we're going to see hyper-violence or anything along those lines.

It's certainly an interesting prospect - particularly with both Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and David Fincher's Mank both upcoming. But then, Hollywood always did love holding a mirror up to itself, so we can probably expect a little added Oscar sauce to this one.

Though there were some rumours Chazelle was making another musical, this isn't it, but let's hope he captures some of the same starry-eyed magic of La La Land even still. That was a modern film deeply rooted in ideas of the period Babylon is set in, so it's almost like it's come full circle.
