Apple begins their movie download service

itunes-movie.jpgAs expected, Apple have launched Itunes7 with the ability to purchase and download movies straight to your pc. They will go up aganist Amazon and their unbox system which was launched on Monday. Interesting quotes from Apple's press release... "Movies will become available on the iTunes Store the same day they are released on DVD, with new releases priced at $12.99 when pre-ordered and during their first week of availability, and $14.99 thereafter, and library titles available for just $9.99 every day".The iTunes Store now features great new releases and library titles from Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films, such as "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," "Shakespeare in Love," "The Princess Diaries," "The Incredibles," "National Treasure," "Toy Story," "The Rock" and "The Rookie." The press release goes on to say that the downloads will be "near dvd quality". It will be interesting to see how popular both Apple and Amazon's service becomes as their prices are pretty much the same and movie back catalogue very similar. I still think that $14.99 is way to much. For this thing to be succesful and entice people to download rather than go to their local DVD store, they need to offer the movies at a cheaper price. Otherwise why would anyone bother? So will you be downloading movies from Itunes at $14.99 for new releases? Well if you live outisde the U.S. you won't be just yet as like Amazon, it's only avaialble to customers living in the U.S. source - apple, coming soon
