Jamie Foxx Lined Up To Play Little John In Yet Another Robin Hood

He's apparently going the Morgan-Freeman, Prince-of-Thieves route, too.

Remember a couple months ago, when Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) was announced as the lead for a Robin Hood reboot? Well, it's all still happening, and the cast may have gotten slightly more interesting, what with the new addition of Jamie Foxx as Little John. According to Deadline, he'll be playing a rather salty version of the character who is it at first distrusting of the young archer, being that they were on opposite sides of the Crusades. Similar to Morgan Freeman's character in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (y'know... the one with Kevin Costner as Robin Hood), Foxx's Little John will evidently be a muslim who is "battle-hardened but war-weary", who ultimately comes to respect and admire the young outlaw. This new take on the Robin Hood mythos - dubbed Robin Hood: Origins, apparently - is being described as gritty and revisionist. At the helm is Peaky Blinders' showrunner Otto Bathurst, and anyone who has seen that high-quality BBC show (touted as the UK's answer to Boardwalk Empire) will understand and agree that if he is spearheading this version of Robin Hood, it may very well be a version of Robin Hood that we all want to see. The inclusion of Foxx here adds Oscar-winning pedigree to the cast that also so far includes Bono's daughter Eve Hewson (The Knick) as Maid Marian. Robin Hood: Origins is currently scheduled for no fixed date sometime in 2017.
