It’s the common rule of thumb in Hollywood that as soon as you are awarded one of those little golden statuettes, people come a rapping on your door with all kinds of lovely treats for you to choose from and it seems that one such Oscar winner has picked an absolute doozy of a project. Fresh off from winning his Oscar for his turn in ‘The Artist’, French actor Jean Dujardin is in talks to join the cast of Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’.
Adapted by ‘Boardwalk Empire’ showrunner Terence Winter from Jordan Belfort’s best selling memoir , the film chronicles Belfort’s dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, including his hard partying lifestyle and highly tumultuous personal life, which included (as these things do) drug and alcohol addiction.
According to Variety, Dujardin is in talks to take the role of Jean Jacques Handali, a suave Swiss banker who finds himself involved in laundering illicit funds for Belfort’s firm.
If Dujardin takes the role then he will join the already cast and Scorsese regular, Leonardo DiCaprio as Belfort and Jonah Hill as an associate of Belfort.
Variety is also reporting that ‘Super 8′ and ‘Friday Night Lights’ star Kyle Chandler is set to take the role of the FBI agent who successfully built the case against Belfort and the one ultimately responsible for taking him down.
After winning the Oscar back in February, Dujardin has found himself attached to multiple projects, including The Weinstein Company’s ‘The Players’ and is also attached to appear alongside Tim Roth in Eric Rochant’s French spy thriller ‘Mobius’.
The film is being financed through Red Granite with Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland are producing along with DiCaprio, Scorsese, Emma Koskoff and Alexandra Milchan with production slated to begin in August in New York.
I don’t know about you but ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ is slowly turning into one of my most anticipated movies of next year. If you haven’t read the book, then I highly recommend it. An incredible story, that you’ll hardly believe that it actually happened.
