Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Top 10 Performances

Our rundown of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's 10 best performances to date.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt appears to have a packed few months ahead, what with this week's release of his new bike messenger thriller Premium Rush, his hugely-anticipated sci-fi Looper at the end of the month, and then towards the end of the year (or early next year in the UK), audiences will be able to glimpse him in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, playing Robert Todd Lincoln, the son of Abraham (played by Daniel Day-Lewis). As such, it's as good a time as any to cast a mindful eye back on the extremely gifted young actor's accomplished back catalogue - and here are our ten favourites.

10. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Though it's worth noting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was already known to audiences for his work on TV show Third Rock From the Sun, 10 Things I Hate About You was a pivotal role for the actor in terms of elevating his profile outside the realm of television. While the film undeniably belonged to Heath Ledger, Gordon-Levitt's turn as new student Cameron James was memorably charming, highlighting both his youthful good looks and his quick wit. Though undeniably the worst film in this list, it's an important breakthrough role of the actor's career, and as a witty re-interpretation of The Taming of the Shrew, it highlighted what would become the actor's knack for selecting smart roles that only made him more popular with audiences and raised his Hollywood stature.
