Judge Dredd Will Return... But Not As A Movie

urban dredd If like us you loved Pete Travis' arse-kicking 2012 Dredd reboot, you're probably hoping that a sequel will one day find its way onto someone's shooting schedule. In a recent interview with MTV, though, the film's producer Adi Shankar crushed the hopes and dreams of millions of fan boys and girls the world over, when he announced there are no plans to film a sequel because the film was a box office flop:
"The movie totally bombed and R-rated movies are a tough sell to begin with. If Dredd becomes a cult hit it will be awesome. Last September was a terrible month: Dredd bombed and then Looper became a massive hit a week later!€
Absolutely gutting news, especially as the film's writer, Alex Garland, had envisioned Dredd as a trilogy introducing classic villain Judge Death in the third movie. But don't lose hope just yet, Dredd fans, as Shankar has now revealed that he is planning to revive the old, square- chinned law man in an internet short along the lines of #DirtyLaundry, the Thomas Jane and Abi Shankar-backed Punisher mini-movie that took Twitter by storm last year. Dredd's gritty, realistic vision of Mega City One would certainly lend itself very well to this kind of filmmaking technique, especially if they keep the as yet unnamed project in the same vein as #DirtyLaundry. So it looks like it's still going to pay to be a fan of Judge Dredd, even if we won't get a chance to see Karl Urban's mug on the big screen again any time soon. Like Dredd? Want a sequel?
