Comic book movies and hopeless speculation go together like PB & J; like World of Warcraft and low personal hygiene; like Christian Bale and upsetting camera crews.
The point is; it wouldn’t be a true comic book season without us here at WhatCulture towers approaching a comic book movie not like a visual experience there to be enjoyed; but a challenge of how good we are at predicting the future.
This could come back to hit me in the face; Batman could not appear in Man of Steel at all, however if Warner Bros and DC want to build a money making universe on a par with Marvel’s Avengers then they have to start interlinking their films. Furthermore this cannot be conceived as a harder task than Marvel’s as DC have the two biggest superhero characters in the world in Batman and Superman; a combined screen presence which could overawe the Marvel Universe.
As the days get closer to Man Of Steel’s release; we entertain the ways in which Batman could appear in Man Of Steel; and DC start to take the fight to Marvel.
Post Credits Scene 1
The Scene:
After Superman bravely saves the day and flies off into the sunset, he is met at his family home by Alfred (played by Michael Caine, of course) who is there to tell him that he’s got a friend interested in meeting him; explaining that to protect the world they will need to work together.
Why This Would Work:
Interlinks the universe effectively without the need to renegotiate contracts with Christian Bale and also allows for a tantalising finale where Alfred talks about groups as a symbol, as a defender of justice in the typically Batman way and offers this to Superman; whose final job of this movie is to agree and leave the world spiralling into frenzy.
IN THE MOVIE SCENE 1:
The Scene:
As the trailer shows; Superman has been captured by soldiers and is being taken into, what we assume is a government facility. This could go either one of two ways he is taken to see Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) who is using a personal bank account to create a facility that the Justice League he plans to form can hide out in. Or, what I think would be more fun, Superman is broken out of this facility by Catwoman, leaving him with the simple message that he has friends who need him free. Before stealing his watch. As she does.
Why This Would Work:
Could you imagine the fanboygasm if Christian Bale appeared in this movie? Though this could cause issues whilst taking the Justice League further if they had the original Bruce Wayne as a Nick Fury figure, when you consider Bruce Wayne in the comics wants Dick Grayson (his first replacement as Batman) to have the freedom to be his own man without him; the sheer effect his would have in kicking us towards a Justice League movie would be monumental.
The alternative scene would be a fun kick back to The Dark Knight Rises with how fun a character Catwoman was whilst again merely introducing this idea of a Justice League on the horizon, building the idea slowly rather than kicking us straight into it.

Interesting article.
Some very cool suggestions!
*DARK KNIGHT RISES SPOILER*
At the end Lucious Fox is talking to some technician in the R&D department and the man says that the auto pilot on the Batwing was fixed, Fox asks by who and the man replies ‘it was Bruce Wayne’. Confirming essentially that Batman survived….Though your post credit scene of Superman taking Batman to safety sounds pretty cool it sounds like you weren’t aware of the mentions in TDKR about Batman surviving or atleast sufficient reason to suggest he survived.
Can’t wait for this movie!!
Dylan you’re right about the auto pilot being fixed but I think that people would be more than willing to just sweep that under a rug… I would. :)
Superman and Batman both existing in Nolan’s universe… pretty damn awesome. I can’t wait to see this!
Cool article.
Just outside the offices of the Daily Planet is a billboard proclaiming ‘THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: NOW PLAYING’.
yes should make a worlds finest movie maybe a trilogy
Sorry but Catwoman breaking *SUPERMAN* out of anywhere is a horrible idea. CATWOMAN! BREAK OUT SUPERMAN?? No!! Batman *maybe* if someone needs to break him out. But Superman and Batman are front line, elite superheroes. Catwoman – as famous and cool as she is – is a secondary. I personally think it would be a mistake for ANY superhero to be rescuing the Daddy of Superheros – Superman – in in a new reincarnation of the character. I don’t mind the Alfred scene that, that actually would be quite cool and I’m not one who cares much about the JLA movie – but that would be cool.
MOSFan is hilarious. Superman has been rescued by sevarl B-listers before, such as Supergirl and Nightwing. So what makes them beter suited than Catwoman? Nothing. She herself has saved Batman on a thousand ocassions and is a master theif and infiltrator. More so than Batman, yea thats right more so than Batman. So if anyone is qaulified to save superman from a Hi-tech facility she`s sure at the top of that list… Oh wait.. U just want to complain./:
My bad… This article is genius, good job Luke S.
interesting, but i dont think that Bruce Wayne would be the Nick Fury. I feel that this would be like the new 52 where the justice league is only called to arms when needed, not when they want to. Other than that, very interesting
Some of these ideas are a little weird but i agree with MOS Fan. it would take a long time for them to make a justice league i know it would come after 2015.i mean think about only superman, batman, and wonder woman??!! the Avengers had Hawkeye, captain america, nick fury, black widow, thor, hulk, and iron man. they will have to make the flash, green lantern(the green lantern movie was to corny it would not mix with the dark knight) the martian man hunter, and aqua man, and probably green arrow.they wont have enough time. what do you think.

When the inevitable montage of people around the world watching Superman flying around on TVs, we pause on a young man training in a gym somewhere doing karate or whatever. We just show the back of his head. He watches intently and we never even get more of a clue than that. We don’t need it smashed in our faces and if WB is going to reboot Batman then we don’t need to worry about casting.
But let’s face facts… WB does not know how to play this game.
Well the 3rd post credit scene doesn’t work for me, because, its implying that, yeah, out of nowhere, in a very very random coincidence Superman was just flying by Gotham , and saw Batman and saved him. Doesn’t work
Not necessarily. If Superman exists in the Nolan-verse, he would surely know about the Gotham situation. Maybe he was there all along, waiting for a moment to be helpful.
A) They just need to make a superman&batman movie to rival avengers And that film shld be rlzd in 2015. To this film they cld add other characters and making stand alone movies for FLASH & GREEN LANTERN , and Make wonderwomen a core character in the SUPER-BAT Movie
B) the martian manhunter arrives at the end credit scenes of MOS and Says to clark “WE HAVE TO MEET SOME ONE”. And when clark asks “Who?”, He answers Bruce Wayne. The JL Movies plot shld be connected with MANHUNTER &GREEN LANTERN
I don’t think Man of Steel with connect with Nolan’s DK trilogy at all – it’ll be a clean break.
Batman calls superman on his iphone and he says lets fuucked up tonight then it becomes the justice league hangover
These all seem to rely too much on the Nolanverse Bruce Wayne appearing again. We need something that doesn’t directly show/say that it’s Bale/Nolan’s Batman in case they don’t go through with another film.
I didn’t really like the second on the list (the first in-movie scene). From what I’ve seen of the trailer, it looks like Superman is turning himself in willingly to gain the trust of the military (and possibly meet Sam Lane – Lois’s father). Catwoman would seem out of place and her breaking him out doesn’t make much sense. If Superman truly wanted to leave, he would. Faster than a speeding bullet.
As for Bruce Wayne making an appearance, that would be way to direct and take away from the actual story that Man of Steel revolves around. It needs to be subtle, like news footage, a crate with Wayne Enterprises on it, or an after the credits scene.
There was a brief scene in Superman Returns where on the news covering Superman’s return (pun not intended) it says Superman has been spotted in, if I remember correctly, Gotham, Star City, etc.
That opened the possibility of Batman *and* Green Arrow. The new movie should do something like that.
