The days are counting down until Avengers: Infinity War is here, and so our rewatch of every single Marvel Cinematic Universe movie continues, with the Avengers sequel Age of Ultron.
Hyped to almost unthinkable levels back in 2015, Joss Whedon's follow-up to his mammoth 2012 hit didn't manage to repeat the original's tenacious blend of smarts, laughs and delirious action, but it was nevertheless a (mostly) solid follow-up.
Did it succumb to bloated sequel syndrome? Absolutely. Was the novelty factor of the Avengers teaming up kinda diluted? Definitely. Even so, considering the reportedly immense pressure Whedon was working under - which swore him off making another MCU movie altogether - it's a suitably entertaining, big-scale blockbuster that left most fans more-or-less satisfied.
Three years removed from all the hype that it failed to live up to, it's much easier to embrace the movie for what it gets right, while also not forgetting its many, many faults and picking up a few new observations...
