MCU: Don't Expect To See X-Men In Near Upcoming Movies

It's going to take time.

While it's terribly exciting that we're going to get the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the MCU in the future, you should probably cool your expectations for when that's going to happen.

Though it would make a lot of sense for the post-Avengers 4 transition to involve some sort of change to the MCU's reality that allows for the sudden appearance of mutants and the Four (perhaps from an alternate version of Earth to follow that old comics trend), there may not be enough time for that to happen.

That's according to Marvel artist Andy Parks, anyway - and he should know, given that he is Marvel Studios' Visual Design Supervisor who spoke to ComicBook about the Disney/Fox deal. He says he has no idea what's going on specifically with the new incoming properties:

“…That’s probably as much as I can say, ’cause there’s nothing really to say yet. At least beyond, ‘Wow.’ That whole Disney buying Fox deal is – none of us saw that coming, and we’re amazed and excited, because we always dreamed of having the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the MCU, but nothing’s actually been decided or announced. So, I have nothing to spill, ’cause I don’t even know what the future is. The only thing I’ve read… these thing are going to take at least 12 months to 18 months for something to even happen.”

But what he does say more firmly is that we shouldn't expect them to appear in the already slated movies:

“If people are expecting to see them in one of our near upcoming films like they might be disappointed. I don’t know. I would love to see them, too, but I have no idea when they’re actually going to come out, but I’m excited for the future. I can’t wait to find out.”

There's still hope (Spider-Man's turnover to appear in Captain America: Civil War was pretty swift and it wouldn't take a lot to seed mutantkind in Avengers 4 even in glorified Easter Egg form) but it's probably right to temper expectations for now and just enjoy the fact that it's all coming.
