Paramount Pictures has announced that production on Michael Bay’s “Ninja Turtles” has been delayed and its release date bumped from Christmas 2013 to May 16, 2014. The budget for the film will also be reigned in a bit. This makes it one of three big budget films from Paramount currently suffering from production delays, the others being “G.I. Joe Retaliation” and “World War Z”.
The film had already garnered much discord from longtime fans of the TMNT franchise when, back in March, it was announced that Michael Bay would be producing the reboot through his company Platinum Dunes. He also promised a fresh and edgy take on the heroes in the half-shell—by giving the turtle more “alien” origins.
The film would feature mo-capped CGI turtles and is directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans), with Bay producing, and screenplay by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol).
What do you think, turtle fans? Could this delay mean another retooling of the origin story? Will Bay have his way with yet another franchise just so he could feature more shots of things from space slamming into earth? Let us know below.

Let’s hope it’s delayed permanently.
My reaction to this ‘bad news’ was similar to that of a man who has just discovered his winning numbers on the lottery.
Changing story ? No, story should stay in original. Turtles that took a bath in radioactive ooze. Why should they drop off from sky ? When original story and sci-fi is mixed like in Indiana Jones, result is BIG dissapointment. I have been moviefreak and fan of superhero movies all my life and I have to say that never mix too much origin story. It´s dangerous bath and bulling it off can be hard. There is one thing that should be thinked and answered before start filminf. Are we making this movie for fans or just to make money ? Offcourse money acts it´s role in everything but in tutles fan I can tell you. Don´t mix up the story or origins because it´s easier and better way to add something to the story. Tune the original story but don´t change it too much. We turles fans ( at least me ) want to see new version of radioactivated, superhero turles ! Not superhero, alien turles… They are our turtles fighting from sewers, they are not our fighting turtles from space !??
I´m from finland so sorry for bad english. Hopefully my point is still clear ?
Mutants and mutations is the core of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle universe. Yes, there are aliens thrown into the mix for more fun, but MUTATION is a key CHARACTER component of SEVERAL of the characters.
Are Splinter, Bebop, and Rocksteady going to be aliens, too? That wouldn’t make sense for their characterizations.
