Michael (Le)Manns To Direct Racing Thriller GO LIKE HELL?

Damnit Michael, I was just getting excited for Agincourt and now it sounds like you still haven't decided on your next project! Variety say Michael Mann is close to agreeing a deal with 20th Century Fox to make Go Like Hell, a Days of Thunder-esque racing thriller that re-tells the true story of a furious competition 'between Ford and Ferrari in 1966, when an American car won the Le Mans for the first time'. Brad Pitt, a known Steve McQueen fan and this movie certainly sounds like the kind of vehicle he would make in the 60's and 70's is being 'considered' for the lead role;
Based on the book by A.J. Baime, story follows Henry Ford II €” with the help of young automotive whiz Lee Iacocca and racing maven Carroll Shelby €” as they set about reinventing the Ford Motor Co. by entering the high-stakes world of European car racing. In a handful of years they would develop the Ford GT40 (one of the most celebrated cars in automotive history) and become the first Americans to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Very, very cool - though with no screenwriter mentioned, it's hard to really pinpoint how close this one could be to film if Mann was to sign on. Right now, Agincourt still looks favourite to go next. Phew. Go Like Hell sounds like the kind of movie I would want to see however. This could be Pitt/Mann's Le Mans movie, which by the way is getting a Blu-ray release on June 13th and would seem to be a must purchase!
