Michael Sheen & Damien Lewis in Hammer Films Horror The Quiet Ones?
Described as a 'poltergeist movie', The Quiet Ones will begin filming in May as Hammer's next film.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Michael Sheen has been offered the leading role in The Quiet Ones, this week unveiled to be the next movie from Hammer Films. In addition, Brit actor Damien Lewis is also said to have been offered a part. Based on a earlier script by Rampart/The Messenger writer & director Oren Moverman that has been re-drafted by John Pogue (Ghost Ship, U.S. Marshals), the horror is described as a 'poltergeist movie' by Hammer Films CEO Simon Oakes and which will start filming in May in South Africa. Pogue himself will direct, with Quarantine 2: Terminal the only previous credit on his behind the camera CV. "Inspired by true events, The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist. Based on the theory that paranormal activity is caused by human negative energy, the rogue scientists perform a series of tests on a young patient, pushing her to the edge of sanity. As frightening occurrences begin to take place with shocking and gruesome consequences, the group quickly realizes they have triggered a force more terrifying and evil than they ever could have imagined." The film is currently been sold out at the European Film Market out in Berlin, perhaps with Sheen packaged as part of the deal? The Quiet Ones will take its audience on a thrilling ride of jumps, scares and eerie tingles," says Pogue, "which combined with set-pieces of unbearable tension will propel them through the shadowy chambers that imprison the tortured mind. Its a dark and claustrophobic picture which will portray how human desire can become trapped in an insidious world of its own creation and how you should alwaysbe careful what you wish for. Since been revived as a production company a few years, the new Hammer Films have churned out Matt Reeves' remake Let Me In, the awesome and atmospheric The Woman in Black and two misfires with Wake Wood and The Resident. This week they acquired the script to a new Jack the Ripper tale (a movie that sounds like it involves Vampires and isn't the traditional version of the Gothic murders of London) titled Gaslight. That one isn't as far ahead as The Quiet Ones. Plus Oakes said this past week that they are tentatively looking at the possibility of reviving the Dracula and Frankenstein characters, two franchises that through the iconic performances of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing helped make their name in their Golden period.
