Star Trek has begun filming which means the last bits of casting information is quickly flooding in.
Yesterday we heard that Winona Ryder was to play Spock’s mum, despite the actress being less than a decade older than Zachary Quinto.
Now comes confirmed reports from IESB that Australian Home and Away actor Chris Hemsworth has been cast as Kirk’s father, despite the actor being only 24, four years YOUNGER than Chris Pine (the guy who is playing Kirk… yes you will remember his name eventually).
Which obviously means we are going to see Kirk and Spock when they are very, very young. Really guys, I don’t need to see them as babies!
Further casting news today is that House actress Jennifer Morrison was spotted in those spy pics earlier this week and IESB have gotten confirmation from her reps that she will be appearing in the movie.
No word on which role but the part of Carol Marcus seems a great possibility. In Trek lore, she was Kirk’s lover. A scientist researcher who gave birth to their son David Marcus, whose life Kirk could have no part of at Carol’s request (as Kirk was too focused on his career), all of which is chronicled in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Below is the character of Carol Marcus as played by the late Bibi Besch…

So quickly to update…
Chris Hensworth is confirmed to be Captain Kirk’s father.
Jennifer Morrison is confirmed to be in Trek, likely to be Carol Marcus.
Rachel Nichols (who we spoke about earlier) is likely to be Janice Rand.
It might be true that Morrison and Nichols could play either of each other’s character but I would think they are better suited to those two parts they are attached to above.
Of course there are other possibilties. There’s Captain Pike’s female office Number One or a completely new character for the movie.
