My Evolution As A Filmmaker In 10 Films
My ambition has always been to direct films for a career. Theres still a way to go yet, but Ive been training for it for the last 7-odd years, but its only in the last four that its taken on a whole new meaning. 5 years ago, I joined a boarding school and lived in a boarding house with 60-odd teenage boys. Being in a boarding school is an odd experience. You become part of a very unique culture that to some may sound preppy and privileged, but is actually the exact opposite. Its a community full of horrible, snotty teenagers where you learn to tolerate and accept even the most annoying people. I am one of those annoying people, and I am one of those horrible, snotty teenagers- Its hardly Harry Potter. But now Ive finished school, and am taking a year off before embarking onto University, I sorely miss what have been the best five years of my life to date- Ive met my best friends there, had the craziest adventures there, and carry the best memories from there with me. See, many of my most cherished memories involve film or cinema somehow- its just the way Im wired! And some of the best times I spent with my friends, who I lived with for all that time, were when I had roped the poor, reluctant souls into starring in my many crazy films. But as well as being fun, theyve proved a massive learning curve for me as a director. In the last five years, me & my friends worked on 3 plays, 7 Documentaries and 7 shorts together. And Ive decided to show you how 10 of the most prominent works have shaped me as a filmmaker thus far Fair warning, though, some are dreadful- the sound mixing, the acting, the editing... I will inevitably pull a Tarantino and wipe them soon enough, but I keep them online as a reminder of how I have improved on each one, and important lessons I learnt on each one. As well as a bit of scrapbook, they serve to remind me every film you make is just another part of the learning curve.
