You know if there is one Hitchcock classic that I wouldn’t mind a remake of, it would be The Birds. The computer technology available now would make that concept work so much better than it did back in Hitch’s day. I watched the movie the other day for the first time in years and I must say it hasn’t aged too well.
Bloody Disgusting through TMZ are reporting THE RUMOUR that King Kong’s scream queen Naomi Watts is being lined up to star as the blonde victim in the remake of Hitchcock’s film.
Well if this pans out I think it’s awesome (if maybe lazy) casting and would certainly add a bit of weight to the adaptation. Like I often say I hate remakes…but sometimes I can see why it MIGHT be a good idea. The technology available now could make deadly killer birds much scarier than Hitchcock managed (although i’m sure his movie scared the shit out of audiences back in the day).
I didn’t see much point in re-making The Wicker Man for instance because they could never better it but I was in favour of a remake to The Mummy because the technology was their to do something different than the Universal original.
Bring on The Birds is what I say.

Here’s a radical idea: STOP REMAKING EVERYTHING!!!
Where are the original ideas anymore????
I agree 90% with what you are saying but sometimes remakes are ok, surely you can see some good in remaking The Birds?
I think things are starting to pick up with originality at the moment. We have Chris Nolan’s The Prestige on the horizon, Eastwood’s Flags of our Fathers, Pan’s Labryinth and Apocolyapto are all cinematically original and look like great movies.
[...] Remember back in October, I posted a rumour (something I never usually do, but it was too good to pass up on!) that Naomi Watts was being lined up to star in a remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic The Birds? [...]
