Naomi Watts held talks over The Birds remake?

king_kong_naomi_watts_hat_and_coat.jpgRemember back in October, I posted a rumour (something I never usually do, but it was too good to pass up on!) that Naomi Watts was being lined up to star in a remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic The Birds? Well, the producer of Platinum Dunes who are the studio behind the remake confirmed that they have at the very least, held discussions with Watts over the movie.... "We've sat down with her and conceptually I think we all want to make the same movie, but until we have a script and a director, I think it's a little premature. But, we'll all talk and she's who we'd like to have as the lead." He went on to say.... "In the next two weeks, or the next week or so I think they'll announce it because they're starting to talk about a new writer to come on and write that. It definitely feels like it's moving." Very, very interesting. If they have had sit down discussions then Watts must be somewhat interested in stepping into Tippi Hedren's shoes. Still, it sounds like we are a long, long way away from seeing this movie if they haven't even hired a script writer yet. I said it in October, and I will say it again. If they are going to remake an Alfred Hitchcock movie (which they shouldn't, but if they feel the need too) then The Birds would be my pick. I mean face it, the original wasn't really that good anyway was it? In my opinion, it's always been somewhat of a blemish on Hitchcock's filmography. And let's face it. The technology is avaliable these days to make those damn birds way more scarier than back in the 60's. Although, I do feel like I might be in the minority on the public opinion on this one! source - coming soon
