New THE AVENGERS Footage Shown at Disney's D23 Expo

Full description of what was shown at Disney's D23 Expo but still no reveal of the two secret films on the horizon.

Having shunned last month's Comic Con which surprised many given the success of last year's complete cast reveal, Marvel brought their superhero ensemble extravaganza The Avengers to Disney's D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center over the weekend but those hoping the announcement of which two Marvel secret film projects that were announced a few weeks back are on the horizon, were left dissapointed. No such announcement was made and your guess is still as good as ours over whether it could be Doctor Strange, Captain America 2, Ant-Man or whatever else we previously mused. Instead Marvel used their time on stage to discuss and show clips from the previous Marvel films, wisely selecting not to show much of The Incredible Hulk given they have changed the actor playing Bruce Banner for the ensemble picture (Mark Ruffalo replacing Edward Norton) and basically waxing lyrical about how satisfied they are with how the films have come together. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige did however announce that director Joss Whedon had only two weeks left of filming on the project and would show a clip from the film. Here's how The Playlist broke it down;
The clip opens with Sam Jackson€™s Nick Fury in a control room speaking to a captured Loki (Tom Hiddleston) within a glass cage. The two exchange a bit of banter, Fury with confidence and Loki with an overabundance of smugness. The Avengers team€”Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Cap (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) watch on. €œHe kind of grows on you, doesn€™t he,€ says Ruffalo with a smirk. In another scene, Stark has a cocktail while talking to someone (it€™s made to look like he€™s talking to Loki but the cut is odd and doesn€™t clearly match up). €œLet€™s take a headcount,€ Stark offers. €œWe€™ve got a couple of highly trained assassins€ , a demigod and a living legend who kinda lives up to the legend .€ Loki says, €œWe have an Army.€ Stark smirks and responds, €œWe have a Hulk.€ The clip ends with Hulk roaring at the screen, which appears to be from the 2008 €œHulk€ movie. Cut to the Avengers logo and out.
All websites that attended the event have reported back of the thunderous ovation the footage received, which along with the welcoming of Avengers cast members Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr - brought about a standing applause, before showing the same clip again. Many sites have wondered what exactly was the point in paying these actors huge sums for such appearances. Those wondering when we might see the footage, Feige told the crowd it would be a long while before it was made available for the public, so we might be lucky if we get to see it in the next three months. The Avengers opens May 12, 2012.
